David Choe @ Fifty24SF Recap Part 2

The journey to find and talk to David Choe continues. Like I said earlier, it’s not like he was hard to find, he was in front hanging outside for a bit. He was just making me a nervous wreck. Hahaha. I’m a lame. Here are his famous whale on one of the walls of the gallery.

This wall showed a lot of the stuff he did with what looked like mainly house paint, oils and spray but I’m sure they have anything and everything in them.

AAHHHHH!!! He’ll do a beautiful piece with some great technique and detail and then just go over it and somehow make it look better and better with each layer. Such balls. Iron balls.

This whole series of peoples faces buried in red are just frickin awesome. Their expressions and features are great.

Master of so many mediums and styles. This guy just kills it at everything he does art-wise. Fuck.

Here’s another fave from the show. If I seriously had $17,000 I would be all over this. I love the title too “Manhandled a.k.a. My Giant Man Hand Will Make Your Penis Look Tiny”

Hehe, even Nate Van Dyke got put to work by some fans.

Frickin art star photo. Lynzy, Nate Van Dyke, Jeremy Fish and David Choe. Ridiculous. I saw Joe Hahn from Linkin Park and heard James Jean and Barron Storey were there as well but I didn’t see them.

Here’s Tony and Amy avoiding eye contact with David Choe and then booking, hehe.

I finally had the balls to talk to him and he was the nicest dude. Here he is pointing out to me the grossest camel toe on the shirt he designed. I went on to tell him how I was a super fan and had a man crush on him. He gave me a hug and told me and Jamie♥ that I should calm down and not be nervous. Hahaha, I went super-lame-fan-boy. Fail. At least I didn’t studder and stammer like I thought I would.

We took a walk outside because it was real warm in the gallery. Here he is after he signed it. He seriously rocks dude. He took the time to talk to me and Jamie♥ even though folks were still asking him for autographs and other stuff. Turns out he lived out in Oakland for like 8 years. I will one day own a painting from this man.

Here is said shirt.

I also asked him for a sketch. Figured I might as well while I still had the guts, and if he said no, whatever, at least I got the tee. He actually said yes and did a real quick sketch of me. Seriously, not that it matters but, this guy is so much bigger and better in my eyes. YES, I’m taking both the shirt and the sketch to Travis‘ to get framed. Hahaha.

Aside from being probably my favorite artist, David Choe is one of the nicest dudes. He totally takes time to talk to his fans however lame/retarded (me) they might be. Still super grounded. The man crush is now reinforced with adamentium and snipers.

After the show a few of us headed to Nickie’s for some food and drinks. Then Jamie♥, Jon, Nate and I headed to The Layover for some more drinks. I needed some liquor to calm my nerves from my encounter with awesomeness. If you wanna see pics without any of my stupid words, Check out my Flickr here.
